Eyes closed I feel the song of the birds in the yard Nature’s morning chorus Calling its mate Breathing deeply I wait for a reply Silence fills the air A trill in the distance Another song escapes I close my eyes again

Skeletal Light

Flashes escape from clouds above Branching like skeletal limbs on a long-dead tree Reaching, grasping, aching for space Deafening drums assault the night Purple and burgundy paint the sky, Broken again by the twists and turns of light

My entire life changed on the day that you died,I wanted to escape, go run, and just hide,But that night, I watched a gorgeous sun set,With sad, tired eyes and a face tear stained and wet. Night stormsilluminatedby burstsof light. Pounding thunderlike a harsh bass chordslams the keysdemanding an audience. Rainbows deniedtheir gloryhidden in thedark. Storms whispertheir departure,crickets singto welcomethe calm. Raindrops hang,then fall,from leavesa staccato arpeggio. A distant flashreminds usof ourstrength.

cars tear byspewing exhaust. toxic fumesinsult the senses. asphalt pathscut throughgreen grass. While — pine treesreach forthe sky. wildflowers wavenature’s resiliencesilently standingreminding us, Life finds a way.
